Germany sets their sights on Eurovision 2019!

We are still digesting the result of Eurovision 2018, but already broadcasters are looking forward to next year’s edition of the contest. One of the nations beginning their preparations is Germany, who became one of the favourites in this year’s edition and ended up finishing in 4th place. With a Top 5 result, the broadcaster is ready to take things to the next level for 2019!

Who will represent Germany in 2019? Well, the search has already begun, with German broadcaster NDR opening the applications for singers and bands. As per the Eurovision rules, up to 6 people can apply together and all participants can apply with either a cover song or an original.

As for the format of the show, it’s still not clear just yet. The broadcaster often changes the format of the national final depending on their success the year before. With a 4th place thanks to Michael Schulte this year, perhaps they will use the same or a similar format, which includes selecting a handful of artists and engaging them in a song writing camp with other talented songwriters. It is likely however that we will get a televised national final which going by previous editions, is likely to take place early next year.

You can apply online here where you will be asked to submit an application form. At this stage, there has been no announcement as to when the application stage will end, but we will keep you updated! Other important rules to note include that the artists must be 18, and that the applicants don’t have to have German Citizenship to apply.
